5/6B Autumn 2016

This half term we focused on calculation methods for addition and subtraction as well as investigating more about place value. We practiced finding multiples and factors which we will be using when we investigate fractions next half term.

In English we looked at Just So stories by Rudyard Kipling and wrote our own ones using the animals we created in Science when we learned by Linnaeus classification.

We compared biographies and autobiographies of writers, such as Roald Dahl and Michael Morpurgo, before researching a person and writing our own biography.

We also explored slam poetry, having fun judging real slam poets as if it were a competition and writing own poems.

This half term we started our IPC topic, 'The Great, the Bold and the Brave' by exploring the Ancient Greeks.

We researched historical events from Ancient Greece in IPC, used Homer's Odyssey as inspiration for our own writing and explored the Classical World through dance and movement with Dance East.

We also tried being classical architects by creating famous buildings from Greece and Rome. Look at the photos below to see us in action!

We can't wait until next half term when we learn more about the Romans and start exploring the Vikings!
