Training and Expertise

Staff training and development needs are closely monitored in school by the leadership team. Subject leaders have a key role in monitoring the development of their area of learning and ensure that all members of staff are providing an inclusive, challenging and ambitious curriculum for all pupils. The SENCO monitors the progress of children with SEN in school. We work meticulously within school to share our expertise and upskill staff members regularly. We have our own speech and language therapist who provides specific support. The school’s SENCO regularly attends the LA’s SENCO network meetings in order to keep up to date with local and national updates in SEND. We also have a membership to NASEN and have built and maintained many relationships with the local authority and other professionals in the area to ensure we can provide appropriate support. At Handford Hall Primary School we are very lucky as we have the following skilled people:

 

  • Staff trained to deliver Draw To Talk
  • Staff trained to deliver Lego Therapy
  • Staff trained to run a Nurture group
  • Early Years and KS1 staff are all Makaton level 1 and 2 trained
  • Speech and Language Support (all staff ELKLAN trained)

 

Several staff trained in strategies to support Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Visual Impairment, Social and Emotional difficulties and ADHD
