Monday 30/03/2020                      Fresh Start Day 1 

 

Use the second module booklet you have been given 

 

L.O.  To sound out words and read the text independently

Steps to success:

  • I can read the Speed Sounds
  1. Look at the focus sounds (circled) on page 2 of module
  2. Practise reading the Speed Sounds in order and then out of order.  Practise with someone else if you can or read them to yourself.
  3. Revise any Speed Sounds which you need to practice.

 

  • I can read the Green, Red and Challenge words in the module

Green words:

  1. Find the ‘special friends’. 
  2. Say the sounds and read the word.
  3. If you need to, find the meaning of the word.
  4. Repeat for all the words.

Red words:

  1. Look at the red word.
  2. Point to the sounds as you say them, then say the whole word.
  3. Point out the circled tricky letters.
  4. Read speedily.

 

  • I can read the text
  1. Read the text. 
  2. Read slowly the first time and use sound talk if you need to.

 

  • I can read and understand the meaning of the words
  1. Circle words that you didn’t understand.
  2. If you can, look up the meaning of any words you don’t know and write then in the module near the word.  You may have to look them up online by writing the word and then the word definition e.g. holiday definition.

Continue to use the second module booklet you have been given 

 

L.O. To be able to read a text fluently

 

  • I can read the Speed Words

         Find the Speed Words grid in your module booklet. 

1. Point to the words across the rows and read them aloud.  If you need to Sound Talk a word, start the row or column again.

         2. Repeat going down the columns.

         If you can, read the words to someone in your family.

 

  • I can re-read the text without using Sound Talk
  1. Reread the text. 
  2. Use Sound Talk if you need to, but try to be fluent if you can.

 

  • I can identify sounds in Green Words to help me spell them correctly
  • Find the spelling grid in the module

Green Words:

  1. Say the word
  2. Write in the dots/dashes/arcs.
  3. Identify the ‘best friends’ in the word (if there are none, write ‘none’)
  4. Count up the total number of sounds in the word and write the number.

Root words and suffixes:

  1. Divide the first word into the root and the ending.

 

  • I can use the sounds I know to write red words from the spelling list (Red Rhythms)
  1. Look at the first Red Word
  2. Read the word.  Point to each sound as you say it, then say the whole word.
  3. Circle the tricky letters
  4. Point as you say the letter names in a rhythm (exaggerating the tricky letters) and say the word.
  5. Cover the word and say the letter names as you write the word
  6. Repeat with all the Red Words

 

  • I can find spelling and punctuation errors in sentences (Proofread / Edit 1).
  1. Read the sentences aloud
   2. Circle the mistakes.  They could be spellings or punctuation.

 

 

Wednesday 1/4/20

Continue to use the second module booklet you have been given 

 

L.O. To be able to understand a text and find information from it.

 

  • I can read the Speed Words quickly and effortlessly.

Find the Speed Words grid in your module booklet. 

1. Point to the words across the rows and read them aloud.  If you need to Sound Talk a word, start the row or column again.

2. Repeat going down the columns.

3. Try to read more quickly and fluently that you did yesterday

 If you can, read the words to someone in your family.

 

  • I can read the story and understand it.
  1. Re-read the text
  2. Try to read fluently, and think about what the story is about.

 

 

  • I can answer questions about the text.

1. Turn to the questions.

2. Find the answers in the story.

            3. Write the answers in sentences.

 

 

  • I can spell the Green and Red words learned from the text.

  • I can spell the Green and Red words learned from the text (repeat from yesterday)
  1. Choose and say one of the Green or Red Words, then cover it up
  2. For Green words use the sounds you know to try spelling it.  Use Spelling Fingers if you need to.
  3. For Red words, use the Red Rhythms.
  4. Look back at the listed word and tick or correct the spelling of each sound. 
  5. Write up to ten words.

 

 

  • I can understand and use vocabulary from the story
  1. Read the first paragraph of the story
  2. Underline useful words
  3. Repeat with the other paragraphs
  4. Make your own wordbank using the useful words.  Use the English book you were given in your pack.

 

Friday 3/4/20

Fresh Start Day 5

Continue to use the second module booklet you have been given 

 

L.O. To be able to write sentences to tell a story

 

 

  • I can think of ideas and practise saying sentences.
  1. Find the page with the pictures for writing.
  2. Think about what is happening in the pictures.
  3. Say two or three sentences for the first picture.
  4. Repeat with the second picture.
  5.  Use some of the words from your wordbank. Make your sentences really interesting!

 

  • I can use the pictures to write sentences
  1. Write sentences for the first 2 or 3 pictures.
  2. Use your own ideas from the sentences you said.
  3. Check:
  • Capital letters and full stops.
  • The spellings in the story are your best try.
  • They make sense.

 

   4. Complete the sentences for the other pictures.
